The Ecosystem

What products does Remarkist make?
Remarkist builds two main products: Folkic, a mobile community app for fan communities on iOS and Android, and Masslore, a collaborative fandom knowledge base. The ecosystem also includes the Rmrk*st magazine and a shared economy built on KRNL, COLR, Lumo subscriptions, and Mementos.
What is Lumo?
Lumo is Remarkist's premium subscription product that works across Folkic, Masslore, and every Remarkist product. Four tiers: Spark (free), Glow ($1.80/mo), Bright ($7.99/mo), Lux ($14.99/mo), plus lifetime Spotlight and Floodlight options.
What is KRNL?
KRNL is the game token that powers creative activity in the Remarkist ecosystem. Earned by attending events and contributing to Masslore. Spent to craft and maintain Mementos and unlock features. KRNL has no real-world monetary value outside the platform.
What is COLR?
COLR is the platform credit used for paid services. 1 COLR equals $0.01. Earned through qualifying purchases. Non-transferable between members.
What is the difference between KRNL and COLR?
KRNL and COLR are separate systems. KRNL is the game token for creative and gameplay features. COLR is the platform credit for paid services. You earn KRNL by participating in the community. You earn COLR through qualifying purchases. They are not interchangeable.
What is a Memento?
Mementos are digital collectibles crafted by event hosts to commemorate fan gatherings. They are issued in limited editions collectible by event attendees, carry their own community chat room, and degrade over time without KRNL maintenance.
What is an Audio Den?
Audio Dens are Folkic's live audio chat rooms for fan conversation: the post-episode debrief, the theory deep dive, the after-party. Hosted by members with appropriate Lumo tiers. You can join directly from the event page and tip other members in KRNL from within the room.
What is harvesting in Folkic?
Harvesting is the mechanic through which members accumulate KRNL during eligible events. By participating with Mementos displayed in their profile showcase they boost their KRNL earnings. You must have RSVPed to the event and return during the Harvest Window to collect.

Folkic

Is Folkic free?
Yes. The Spark tier is free with full access to community spaces, events, and KRNL earning. Lumo subscriptions start at $1.80/month for expanded access.
What platforms is Folkic available on?
Folkic is available on iOS and Android. Members must be 16 or older.
How is Folkic different from Discord?
Folkic is built specifically for fan communities organized around entertainment franchises. It offers structured events, digital collectibles, franchise knowledge integration via Masslore, and a creator economy. Discord is a general-purpose chat platform.
What should I do first after installing Folkic?
The best starting point is the New Member Achievements list, accessible from the home tab on the bottom app menu. It gives you a step-by-step set of tasks that orient you to the app and reward you with KRNL along the way. If you want to dive in immediately, browse the home feed or a specific World to find an upcoming event, RSVP, and show up at the scheduled time.
What is the New Member Achievements system?
New Member Achievements is a collection of introductory tasks designed to help you learn Folkic by doing. Each task is represented by an image that bursts into color when completed. Most are straightforward to finish and come with KRNL rewards. You can access the list from the settings menu in the top right corner of your app profile.
Can I refer friends to Folkic and earn KRNL?
Yes. Experienced members can refer friends and earn KRNL as those friends complete their own New Member Achievements. Generate available referral links in the Referrals Center from the settings menu in the top right corner of your app profile.
How do I learn my way around Folkic?
Look for the info symbol throughout the app. Tapping any info symbol opens a short explanation of that feature or section. They are placed in dozens of spots and are the quickest way to understand what something does without leaving the page you are on.

Worlds and Events

What is a Remarkist World?
Worlds are how Folkic organizes content by entertainment franchise: a specific TV series, film, book, music artist, and so on. Every event is scheduled within a World, and every Memento is associated with one. Tap the Worlds tab (second from the left on the bottom menu) to search for any franchise and browse its event calendar and community activity. Spin-offs and connected stories typically share a World with their parent franchise.
What types of events happen on Folkic?
There are seven event types. Watch Parties are for watching a show or film together and discussing it in real time. Listening Parties follow the same format for music. Storytimes are for books. Gab Sessions are casual discussions tied to a World. Talks and Panels are structured events with invited speakers. Game Nights are for trivia and World-related games. Lounges are the most open and informal, just for connecting with other fans.
How do I find and RSVP to an event?
Browse the home feed on the home tab or navigate to a specific World and open its event calendar. Tap any event card to view the detail page. If the event is within the next three days, you will see an RSVP button at the top of the screen. You can only be RSVPed to one event at a time; overlapping events require choosing one. A green dot on an event card confirms your RSVP.
What is the KRNL Harvest Window?
The Harvest Window opens 15 minutes before an event ends and closes 15 minutes after it ends. During this window, return to the event's detail page and tap the Harvest button to collect your KRNL. You must have RSVPed beforehand. Folkic does not send notifications, so it is on you to remember. Attending the event makes it easier.
How do I earn KRNL as an attendee?
RSVP to any event, show up or return to the event page during the Harvest Window, and tap the Harvest button. The amount you earn can be boosted by the Mementos you have displayed in your Showcase. Track all your earnings and spending in the Stash section of your profile.

Hosting

Can anyone host events on Folkic?
Yes. Any member can schedule and host an event. You just need to choose a World, pick a time, and show up. Events can also have co-hosts, which is a good way to ease into hosting alongside someone with more experience. Lumo membership gives you access to a certain number of Folkic Audio Dens per month, otherwise schedule your events to take place on Discord or other external platforms.
How do I schedule an event?
Tap the Worlds tab, search for the franchise you want to host around, and navigate to its event calendar. Tap the Calendar button in the lower right to begin scheduling. Choose your event type, set the time, fill in the details, and publish. Once your event is live, you can craft a Memento for it from the event detail page.
How do I earn KRNL as a Host?
Hosting is the fastest way to earn KRNL. Hosts do not harvest the same way attendees do. Instead, you receive Host Harvests based on the total KRNL harvested by your event's attendees: the more people harvest from your event, the more you earn. Host Harvests accumulate in a dedicated section of your Stash and can be claimed whenever you like.
What is a Content Streak?
A Content Streak tracks your consistency as a host. Claiming a Host Harvest counts toward your streak. Saving a few Host Harvests and claiming them on days when you might otherwise miss activity can help you maintain your streak strategically.
Can I earn KRNL by uploading icons to the catalog?
Yes. All Mementos are built using icons from the Folkic catalog. If you are an artist, you can upload custom icons and optionally set a KRNL commission for other members who use them in their Mementos. Tap "Your Icon Designs" on your profile, then the plus button in the upper right to submit a new icon and set your commission.
Can I earn KRNL from tips?
Yes. Members can tip you from your public profile or from within Audio Den events by tapping your avatar. Contributing interesting perspectives and helpful insight is the best way to earn tips.

Mementos

What are Mementos in more detail?
Mementos blend micro-articles, game items, and keepsakes. Each is crafted by an event host and tied to a specific event. They are issued in limited editions, each with its own community chatroom for collectors. Unlike typical social media where followers and likes are the currency, Mementos are about preserving the ideas and experiences of creative fan communities.
How do I claim a Memento?
Navigate to the event detail page. If the event has a Memento and editions are still available, you will find a claim button near the bottom of the page. Tap it and enter the passphrase when prompted. If your passphrase is correct and editions remain, you will receive one. Be quick: editions are limited and go fast.
What is a Memento passphrase?
The passphrase is set by the host who crafted the Memento. Sometimes the host distributes it openly at the event. Often they build a challenge around it: clues hidden in the Memento description, trivia tied to the franchise, or puzzles that can only be solved by attending. Being at the event almost always gives you an advantage in finding it.
What is Memento density?
Density is a value set by the host when crafting a Memento. It determines how long the Memento lasts before degrading. Higher density editions last longer and degrade more slowly. Density also affects the crafting cost in KRNL.
What happens when a Memento degrades?
Mementos degrade over time and can vanish completely if not maintained. When an edition falls below 25% density, it goes to auction. If it reaches zero density, it disappears from the platform entirely. To restore a degrading edition, access it from your Memento Collection in your private profile and spend KRNL to restore it. Think of the restoration fee as a micro-subscription to the Memento's creator.
What is the Memento Showcase?
Your Showcase is a section of your public profile where you display up to four Memento editions from your collection. Displaying Mementos in your Showcase unlocks KRNL multipliers when you harvest from events. The biggest boosts come from alignments: four Mementos from the same World, or four Mementos from the same host. Those boosts apply specifically to events in that World or hosted by that person, so experimenting with configurations is worthwhile.
What are Memento Chats?
Each Memento edition comes with a private chatroom for its collectors. You can access all your active Memento chats from the bottom middle tab. Chat duration is tied to the Memento's density, with a maximum of one year from release. Hosts can reopen dormant chats as an added benefit for collectors who are paying to upkeep their editions.
How does bidding at auction work?
Check the Auctions tab regularly for editions that have been reclaimed by the system or listed by other members. Once someone places a bid, the auction runs for exactly 24 hours. The most serious bidding typically happens in the final seconds. The best approach is to decide your maximum bid early and place it close to the end to give others less time to respond. Bids are placed using KRNL.
How do I create a Memento?
Schedule an event first. Once your event is in the calendar, a "Craft Memento" button will appear near the bottom of the event detail page. From there you choose an icon from the catalog, set background and border colors, write the title and description, set a passphrase, choose the number of editions, and set the density. Crafting costs KRNL based on the edition count and density you choose.
How do I earn KRNL from Mementos I have crafted?
When collectors restore their editions of your Mementos, you receive a portion of the restoration fee. This can add up over time across a large number of distributed editions and can offset the KRNL cost you spent to craft them. It functions as a form of passive earning for Memento creators.

Masslore

What is Masslore?
Masslore is a collaborative fandom knowledge base that catalogs factual and referential information about entertainment franchises of all sizes. Free to read. Contributors earn KRNL for approved entries.
Is Masslore free to use?
Yes. The encyclopedia is free to read and browse. Contributor accounts are free on the Spark tier. Lumo subscriptions unlock expanded editorial access and tools.
How is Masslore different from Fandom.com?
Masslore is a single unified taxonomy built as a structured, curated data product. Fandom.com is an open wiki ecosystem with independent community wikis of varying quality that often contain subjective descriptions.
Can I contribute to Masslore?
Yes. Create a Remarkist account and apply for contributor access. Approved contributions earn KRNL rewards.

Rmrk*st

What is Rmrk*st?
Rmrk*st is a Substack magazine covering the entire Remarkist ecosystem of products and its explorations of fandom as an emerging cultural pillar and focus of the 21st century.
How does Rmrk*st fit into the Remarkist ecosystem?
Rmrk*st is the analysis layer, the editorial voice of the ecosystem. It sits alongside Masslore (the knowledge layer) and Folkic (the community layer) as one of the three core pillars of what Remarkist builds for fans.
What does Rmrk*st cover?
Franchise retrospectives, episode and film analysis, fan fiction, creator and fan interviews, fandom history, and original essays on story culture. The scope is broad. If it matters to a fan community, it belongs here.
Is Rmrk*st free?
Yes, always. Every article, essay, and piece of fiction published in the Rmrk*st magazine is free to read with no paywall, no account required.
Can I write for the magazine?
Yes. The magazine publishes fan contributors alongside the editorial team. Accepted pieces earn KRNL rewards.

The Six Fanotypes

What are the Six Fanotypes?
The Six Fanotypes are: The Host (focused on celebration and shared experiences), The Analyst (focused on critique and deep understanding), The Creator (focused on fan creativity and remixing), The Archivist (focused on cataloguing and collecting), The Patron (focused on consuming and supporting), and The Insider (focused on behind-the-scenes access). A framework developed by Remarkist founder John Cabrera.
Where does this framework come from?
The Six Fanotypes framework was developed by Remarkist founder John Cabrera based on years of observation across fan communities and fandom events.
Is a person only one Fanotype?
No. The Six Fanotypes are archetypes, not fixed categories. Every fan is a blend of multiple personas in different proportions.
Is one Fanotype better than another?
No. All six contribute essential things to any fan community. Remarkist designs its products to serve all six because a platform that only serves some of them is not fully serving fandom.
What is the Fandom-Activation Effect?
A concept developed by John Cabrera describing how different franchises activate different personas within the same individual. Every franchise has a dominant energy that inflates certain Fanotype tendencies in the fans who encounter it.
How do the Six Fanotypes group across the three axes?
Axis one, community-dependent vs. self-sufficient: Host, Creator, and Patron need others; Insider, Analyst, and Archivist can work alone. Axis two, speculative vs. established: Analyst, Insider, and Creator put their own layer on the franchise; Host, Patron, and Archivist engage with it as-is. Axis three, performative vs. receptive: Insider, Creator, and Host perform for the community; Patron, Archivist, and Analyst are the audience.

Your Account

How do I create a Remarkist account?
Download Folkic from the App Store or Google Play and follow the registration flow. You will choose a membername, create a password, and provide a valid email address. You must be at least 16 years old. Members between 16 and 18 may require parental consent depending on their jurisdiction.
How do I delete my account?
You can initiate account deletion through the Delete Account feature in your Account Settings. Once you start the process, a 24-hour cancellation window opens during which you can reverse it. If you do not cancel within that window, deletion becomes permanent. Account restoration is not possible after permanent deletion.
What happens to my KRNL, COLR, and Mementos if I delete my account?
All in-game items, including your KRNL balance, COLR credits, and any Memento editions you hold, return to Remarkist upon permanent deletion. They cannot be recovered, transferred, or redeemed before or after deletion.
What happens to Mementos I crafted that other members hold?
This is the most significant consequence of deleting an account as a Host. Editions of your Mementos held by other members become restricted: visible only to the holder, but no longer transferable, tradable, or eligible for auction. Any custom icons you contributed to the shared platform catalog are set to private and removed from availability for new Memento crafting. These consequences take effect immediately and are not reversed if you create a new account. We strongly encourage Hosts to consider the impact on their collectors before initiating deletion.
What happens to my content if I delete my account?
Your account data and personal identifiers are deleted or de-identified. However, Submissions you made, including event content, contributions to Masslore, and creative works, may remain on the platform as part of its creative archive, dissociated from your identity where possible. The license you grant Remarkist to use your Submissions survives account deletion.
What are my privacy rights?
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access your personal data, request correction or deletion, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, request data portability, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. All requests can be submitted to privacy@remarkist.com. Remarkist does not sell personal data to third parties.
What if someone else is using my account without my permission?
Report it immediately by emailing support@remarkist.com with the subject line: Compromised Account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity conducted under your account.
